Welcome to YorkDoula.com!
I hope this site helps you to find the information you're looking for about doulas, childbirth education classes, and the services I provide. Below are some quick answers to get you started. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!
WHO:
My name is Chandra Stewart. I am a certified birth doula and certified Lamaze childbirth educator. I've been working with pregnant women and their families since 2007. To learn more about me and why I became a doula and childbirth educator, please visit my About Me page. I would also be happy to answer any questions via email!
WHAT:
A birth doula is a person who provides professional support to women in labor. We are trained to help women cope with pain, recognize their options for birth, keep labor progressing, and much more. We also help partners to be the best labor support they can be, while taking some of the pressure off of them. For more information about doulas, visit my Doula FAQs page. To learn more about the specific services I offer and my fees, please see my Doula Services page.
My childbirth classes are fun, modern childbirth classes with an emphasis on healthy birth. Everything I teach is evidence-based, meaning it has been proven by scientific research to be the best approach. We will move, laugh, practice, and learn together! For answers to frequently asked questions about my class, including class pricing, please visit my Childbirth Class FAQs page.
WHERE:
I attend births and offer Lamaze classes for anyone in York, Nebraska, and the surrounding areas, including Henderson, Aurora, Geneva, Seward, Grand Island, Hastings, and Lincoln. My classes are a great option for those who plan to give birth in a bigger city, but don't want to drive an hour every week for childbirth education! More importantly, however, because I am not affiliated with a hospital, my classes offer in-depth, evidence-based, unbiased information, so you can make informed decisions about your care that will work best for you and your family.
WHY:
Because every family deserves the best start, and every woman deserves the best birth experience possible! Women (and their partners) who attend childbirth classes are more likely to have a satisfying birth experience, and less likely to receive unnecessary interventions. Whether you are a first-time mom or are having your fifth baby - and I've had both in my classes! - there is so much you can learn and many benefits to receive by coming to class.
Additionally, women who have a doula at their birth have shorter labors, and are less likely to have a cesarean or instrumental birth, want an epidural or IV pain medications, or need pitocin induction or augmentation. See my Doula FAQs page for more information!
Announcements & Upcoming Events:
If you're an expectant mama, do yourself a favor and sign up for the Lamaze Building Confidence Week-by-Week e-newsletter! Each week a new topic about pregnancy, birth, or postpartum is addressed in a way that will help you decrease fear and increase confidence in yourself and your body! Mother's Advocate also has some fantastic resources.
York La Leche League (breastfeeding support and information) meets the third Tuesday of every month at the York General Hospital in York, from 7-9 PM. Anyone wanting to learn more about breastfeeding is encouraged to attend, and babies are welcome!
